Always wanted to be part of Ottawa history?

While Greystone Village is the shiny new neighbour in Old Ottawa East, the area is brimming with over 200 years of heritage and legacy that’s too vital to overlook.

Fast Facts:

• Old Ottawa East is located between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River
• Farmers settled into the area in the mid-nineteenth century, but it actually developed into a community and a place for people to live in the 1870s
• In 1888, it was incorporated as the Village of Ottawa East, but prior to that it was known as the suburban community of Archville
• Archville welcomed the arrival of the railway which created essential access for the coal and gas industries to boom across the Rideau River and the Canal
• Main Street was the central connection of the Archville neighbourhood hosting a variety of historical buildings and institutions
• While rich in history, Old Ottawa East also flourishes with parks, trees and water-side trails

My only hope is that the historical buildings will be preserved and not torn down as has been the case in many redevelopments that the city has proved and that housing will be affordable not just for the higher income brackets. Housing for lower/middle income is a must.
