Entertainment with an Educational Twist
When March Break rolls around, Ottawa’s museums provide kids with fun learning experiences. This year, children can enjoy full-day workshops of engineering, computer science, art related activities with the Tinkering Workshop at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum. For historians in the making, the Canadian Museum of History is offering a Viking Adventure that allows kids to participate in Viking themed activities, including unique crafts and games. Kids can also take a Barnyard Break at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum with food education workshops and quality time with farm animals.
A Surplus of Fun
Let the kids run freely at the Funhaven Family Fun Centre, located just west of downtown Ottawa. Funhaven offers a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages, including everything from bumper cars, to rock-climbing, laser tag, arcade games, jungle gym, and more. The kids will spend their day burning out all their energy, which means you’ll get the luxury of a relaxing evening.
The Great Outdoors
The weather is warming up and you can take full advantage of the natural beauty Ottawa has to offer. Take the kids on a hike or bike ride through the scenic Gatineau Park, or head to the Cataraqui Trail and have them keep their eyes peeled for deer, porcupines, rabbits, and other woodland critters. For a more casual stroll, walk along the picture-perfect Rideau Canal – and don’t forget to treat them to Ottawa’s famous beaver tails.
An Organic Sugar Rush
Here in Ottawa, the arrival of March typically prompts some maple syrup fun. Throughout the surrounding areas, families can enjoy maple related activities from pancake breakfasts, to sleigh rides, and maple taffy making in the snow. Guided tours are also available to show kids how maple syrup is made.
Eat, Craft, and Be Merry
Sometimes the best days are the ones spent at home with the family. Bask in a day of quality family time and create your own custom list of activities. Get creative with kids’ craft ideas to let imagination flow freely. Let them help you make kid-friendly snacks that are fun to eat, or take it a step further and guide your kids through preparing a meal specifically designed for little chefs.
